Crookes Class filled with Joy!

Our Campaigns

Last week, we were treated to a visit by local singing superstar Joy Crookes!

Each year our teachers think carefully about an inspiring person to name their class after. This year, Year 5 Class Teacher Marcia chose the wonderful Joy Crookes. We were so lucky that Joy gave up some of her time to come and visit us.

As well as being serenaded with an Irish folk song in assembly, Joy told a captivated audience about her life, her career and what it means to become a singer/songwriter. She even gave us a great singing warm up that we could use!

After visiting the class which takes her name, Joy took time signing autographs and taking photos. The children were so proud to shoe her their art work they created of her and couldn’t wait to ask her lots of burning questions. They were all so inspired by the visit.

“I am inspired by the type of person she is”

In her class intro video, Marcia explains how she was inspired by her talent, her hard-working nature and the fact she grew up around the corner in Elephant and Castle! Marcia was also impressed at how Joy Crookes embodies our school Core Values in so many ways. For example, last July, Joy Crookes helped some of our young campaigners at Westminster who were campaigning for free school meals for all.
