On 23 July, our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) joined the Free School Meals for All coalition and gathered with over 200 hundred people in Parliament Square for a major stop on their National Tour. With chants, songs and stories, our wonderful children joined teachers, parents and MPs to bring attention to the epidemic of child hunger in schools.
This was an important moment to come together, as civil society leaders, educators and community organisations, to show the groundswell of support in the country for extending Free School Meals to every child in primary school in England.
This was also a crucial opportunity to call for this to be a ‘day one’ priority for Keir Starmer’s Government right before Westminster broke for recess. The children spoke with musician and advocate for Free School Meals Joy Crookes, were supported by local MP Neil Coyle and inspired further by MP Zarah Sultana who shared why it’s important to end child hunger.
Thanks to Fi and Molly for organising the children who did SUCH a great job campaigning for change.
