SSq Newsletter – 20th March 2025

Newsletter

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Visit Your Child in Class Morning last Wednesday—thank you for coming! This time, the focus was on feedback, and we shared how we teach children to give kind, helpful, and specific feedback to support each other’s learning. A real highlight was watching two brave children perform a scene from Twelfth Night, with parents using this model to give their own feedback—just as we do in class!

We also asked for your thoughts on TLC day forms and parent workshops, and we really appreciate the feedback you shared—thank you. Please do come and speak to us if you have more to share regarding this. It was lovely to hear such positive reflections after your classroom visits too – click here to read a more detailed summary of your thoughts.

This Friday (21st March) is Comic Relief—you should have received an email about this. Children can wear their own clothes (hopefully something red!) and bring a £1 donation to support this brilliant cause, which links to our school value of community.

Also on Friday, our Year 4, 5, and 6 Shakespeare company will be performing an abridged version of Twelfth Night at The Source, a new arts venue in Stratford, as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival. This is an incredible opportunity for them to develop their oracy and teamwork skills, grow in confidence, and experience performing on a professional stage. We wish them lots of luck!

Enjoy the rest of the week,

Matt

Trips and Experiences

Year 4 were visited by Magic Breakfast partners Millennium Capital Partners to talk about aspirations and pathways into different careers. They spoke to executive assistants, software developers, business managers and more. Year 4 asked brilliant questions and the visitors were so impressed by their responsibility and insightful questions.

Reception have been learning the story of the Little Red Hen, and as part of this topic the children learned about how wheat is made to flour, how bread is made and then made their own bread.

Year 2 had an exciting week with two trips. On Monday, they went to the Tower of London to learn about the Great Fire of London and on Friday they visited the NOW Gallery to see our socks in Celia's sock exhibit. The children enjoyed both trips and showed all the core values.

The children from The Hive have been enjoying their weekly PE sessions with the coaches from the PESSN. Developing their throwing and catching skills, the children are also undertaking more complex obstacle courses to develop and improve their balance. Keep up the great gymnastic work folks!
