Dear Families,
We’re now well into the spring term and it’s been great to see the children so focused and energised in their learning.
A big thank you for all your support with Aspiration Week last week. Across the school, children were visited by a brilliant range of speakers – including a West End theatre director, a procurement and shipping expert, and creatives from the world of advertising. There was so much inspiration and curiosity on show, and the children asked thoughtful, insightful questions throughout.

Friday’s dress-up day was a real highlight – thank you for helping your children come in as their future selves! From prime ministers to authors, teachers, therapists, artists and vets, it was fantastic to see the range of aspirations on display and the confidence with which children spoke about their ambitions.
In assemblies this week, Carol and Marcia spoke to the children about the importance of responsibility when out and about in the community. They introduced the important message that “Clever Never Goes”– teaching children that saying no and staying safe around strangers is a smart and responsible choice. You can find helpful information for parents on this topic by clicking here.

A reminder that TLC Day is next Wednesday (28th January). School will be closed to children on this day, but we expect every child to attend their appointment with a parent or carer. These meetings are such a valuable opportunity to reflect on progress and set goals for the rest of the year – please make sure you have booked your appointment using the Arbor link sent via email. If you have problems with booking then please speak to Abbi in the office.
Have a great rest of the week!
Matt

NEWS – YEAR 2 ON THE HUNT FOR HISTORY!
Perera Class became History detectives on their trip to the London Archives this week, linked to their learning about the Great Fire of London. They got the chance to look at historical documents such as maps, letters and even a floor plan of the bakery where the fire started. They used magnifying glasses to find clues about London in the 17th Century and also learned to use documents, artefacts and primary sources to find clues to help tell an accurate story of the fire. Otedola Class are excited to visit in a few weeks time.

Dear Parents and Carers,
The government has recently passed a new housing act called “Awaab’s Law”. Awaab's Law is a new rule for social landlords (like the council or housing associations). It was created after the tragic death of a two-year-old boy, Awaab Ishak, who died because of severe mould in his home that his landlord ignored. The main point of the law is to force landlords to fix serious problems in your home very quickly and stop them from ignoring dangerous issues like persistent damp and mould. If you report an emergency, like a leak, the landlord has 24 hours to investigate and start fixing the issue. If you report a significant hazard like severe damp and mould, they have to begin the repair within 5 working days and investigate within 10 working days. If you are experiencing any of these issues, please email [email protected] or [email protected] mentioning Awaab’s Law – feel free to copy me in [email protected]

I’ve been made aware that some Health Care companies are having their licenses to sponsor overseas workers revoked, which means that people in the care sector on sponsorships might lose their jobs. If this applies to you, please see this website and let me know if you’d like to discuss this further. The government also has this website for support.
London South Bank University (LSBU) provides a free legal advice service for a range of issues. Please see this website for more information about how to access support.
Please can you let me know if you currently live on the Aylesbury Estate. We know that conditions in some of these blocks are very poor right now, and we would like to support you if possible.
Please do remember to let me know if you are in Temporary Accommodation or are renting privately, and would like support with any housing problems. We have a great partnership with a housing advocacy organisation called Kineara, who can support our parents with questions they might have about living in TA or in the private-rented sector. Please come and collect a referral form from me if you would like to book an appointment.
Please keep an eye on this information page outlining information from me about various issues.
