Dear Families,
We’ve made it to the final week of the academic year—and what an incredible year it’s been!
On Monday morning, children spent time with their new teachers in their new classrooms—a brilliant opportunity to get familiar with their new space and adults before the summer break. The children were settled, positive and full of excitement. Of course, moving on can bring up lots of different emotions—excitement, nervousness, sadness—and we always speak to the children about how it’s OK to feel any or all of these things. It’s all part of growing and changing.
You should have received your child’s end-of-year report on Monday. Please take a moment to read it carefully and celebrate the fantastic progress they’ve made—both academically and personally—over the course of this year.
Last week, we held a whole-school assembly to celebrate the incredible work from this term’s STEAM projects. From Year 1’s vehicles to help Sunny the Meerkat travel, to Year 3’s reflective cycling accessories for staying safe in the dark, to Year 5’s climate-resilient housing designs—each project showed creativity, critical thinking and real-world problem solving. This week, parents and carers are being invited into school for mini class assemblies to see the outcomes up close—don’t miss them! See below for some images of these great outcomes.
On Thursday, Year 6 treated us to their incredible end-of-year show, taking us on a journey from the 1990s into the future to reflect on how we use the internet. With original music, smart storytelling and a powerful message, it was a true team effort. Huge congratulations to all the children involved—on stage, backstage, tech crew, ushers and musicians—and a massive thank you to Megan, Chris and Netra for guiding and empowering the children to create something so special.

This Wednesday, Year 6 will also be sharing their personal portfolios with parents and carers—showcasing their achievements, values, identities and goals beyond the core curriculum. It’s always a proud and moving moment for everyone involved.
On Thursday 24th July, we’ll be celebrating Surrey Square being named Primary School of the Year with class parties across the school. Children are invited to come in their own clothes for the day to help us mark this amazing whole-school achievement together. Please note that school uniform should be worn on all other days this week.
On Friday, we’ll be marking two important milestones:
Year 6 Graduation at 9:15am
Nursery Graduation at 10:30am
These events are such joyful ways to end the year and reflect on just how far these children have come at SSQ.
A reminder that school finishes on Friday 25th July at:
1:30pm for Year 6
1:45pm for Reception to Year 5
We wish all our families a happy, safe and restful summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 3rd September. Please see below for a reminder of key dates for next year.

NEWS – STEAM PROJECTS SUCCESS
On Friday we celebrated the success of our steam projects. These projects required the children to find a technical solution to a real problem. The children led the learning by asking questions that they wanted answers to and the teachers helped them by designing lessons to support this learning. The children researched and built prototype inventions and then made improvements. We had meercat transport from year 1, a chill-out zone at the festival from year 2, year 3 created safety clothing for when riding bikes and scooters, year 4 made durable and affordable toys for joytime, year 5 designed buildings to cope with extreme weathers and year 6 created their own computer games.

NEWS – DOUBLE WIN FOR EDIBLE ROTHERHITHE AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
It was a great way to end the school year for our after school gardeners as they received their Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Certificate of Excellence and their Level 3 Growing Award.

Over recent months, students have diligently worked with Pippa Cox to learn about growing and caring for various plants, including vegetables. These are donated to the Old Kent Road Family Zone for their monthly event, contributing to free family lunches. Additionally, they received a £500 grant from Groundwork London, which manages the Tesco community grants, to support healthy salad-making clubs for after-school students. Well done everyone and thank you to Christina and the Edible Rotherhithe team.
NEWS – A HIVE OF FUN ON THE THAMES!
The children in The Hive ended their transport topic with a trip on a boat from Greenwich to London Bridge. They all had great fun and enjoyed every moment! Thanks to all the adults who made this trip possible.
