Dear Families,
We hope you had an enjoyable and restful bank holiday weekend!
Thank you to everyone who attended their TLC appointment on Tuesday. We hope you found the time with your child’s teacher valuable, giving you a clear understanding of how they are progressing both personally and academically. If you haven’t yet had your appointment, there are still some slots available on Thursday evening.
Next week, our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs. They’ve been working incredibly hard in the lead-up and will be putting our school values—especially responsibility and perseverance—into action. We want to remind everyone that SATs only measure a small part of what our children can do. What matters most is that they give it a go next week – and we know they will. After SATs, there’s so much to look forward to: their end-of-year show and creating their portfolios where they can focus on all the other many strengths they have. We look forward to them presenting their portfolios at the end of July.
And finally, a huge good luck to our Year 4 children who will be performing in a ukulele concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday afternoon! This is an iconic venue and we’re so proud of their dedication and progress since they began learning the ukulele in January. We can’t wait to see them shine on stage! Look out for some photos next week!
Matt

I am available in school from Monday to Wednesday – do get in touch ([email protected]) if you have any questions in the meantime.
Many of our families over the last 12 years have lived with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) restrictions on their visas, which means that they are not eligible for any welfare benefits, including social housing. Currently, 9% of our pupils are affected in this way.
We've been very committed to raising awareness about this issue, as we've seen how it pushes people into poverty, because paying for private rent in this area of London is extremely expensive. It's also something that lots of people in the UK don't know anything about. We've been working with a journalist called Brenna since 2017 to highlight the impact of living with NRPF, and one of her films featuring four of our Surrey Square families, was recently aired on Channel 4 News. Please see the link below to watch. We're so proud that our pupils are demonstrating how to be an advocate and activist for themselves and others.
If you have No Recourse to Public Funds and I don’t already know about it, please let me know by emailing [email protected] as there may be some additional support we can help you with.
Don’t forget, we have a housing expert coming in once a month, specialising in supporting people in Temporary Accommodation or facing other housing challenges. If you would like an appointment for the next drop-in session in May, please let me know asap, so I can give you the self-referral form to complete – [email protected]
Keep an eye on my information page outlining advice from me about various issues that may concern you plus many opportunities that are available to you and your family here in Southwark.

Trips and Experiences
Last week Year 4 Pym Class visited a local Pizza Express where they had an expert lesson from Chef Fernando.
There was lots of enjoyment on show in both cooking and eating their own pizzas!
Years 3 – 6 had Yusuf from Talk Consent in to speak to them last week about the importance of boundaries and consent. The children discussed what they would do in different scenarios and how to respect themselves and others with choices around their emotional and physical boundaries. We were all impressed at the maturity and responsibility that was on show throughout the assemblies.
