Dear Families,

What a fantastic Democracy Week we had last week! After a week of campaigning, manifestos, hustings, our press conference and, of course, voting, the results are in. A huge congratulations to The Red Champions, who have been elected to lead this year’s SSQ Pupil Parliament!

We are delighted to introduce our new Prime Minister, Raymand Modami Alijani, and Deputy Prime Minister, Amber Cunningham. They now have the exciting job of leading our second Pupil Parliament, alongside their Cabinet and the MCs representing each class. After seeing everything our first Parliament achieved last year, we are really excited to see where this year’s children take it and the positive changes they make across SSQ.

The Red Champions campaigned on the belief that every child belongs in our school, has pride in our community and can make positive change in the world. Their manifesto includes ideas for making a difference in school, in our local community and in the wider world – from improving opportunities for children at SSQ to supporting our community and taking action on issues such as diversity and climate change. We’re excited to see which ideas they take forward!

Congratulations to Raymand, Amber and The Red Champions – we can’t wait to see what you achieve!

This week, our assemblies have continued to focus on our value of Respect, this time thinking about respectful friendships. Using the story The Squabbling Squirrels, we explored something that happens in every friendship from time to time: disagreements. We talked about how disagreeing with someone is okay, but how we respond when things go wrong really matters.

We reminded the children to WIBIT, a simple tool for using our voices to help resolve disagreements respectfully: When you… I felt… Because… I would like you to… Thank you for listening. We modelled how children can use this to explain how something has made them feel, listen to one another and find a way forward rather than allowing a disagreement to grow. You might even like to try WIBIT at home when those inevitable sibling or family disagreements arise!

It has been another busy and exciting week at SSQ, and with our new Pupil Parliament now in place, we are looking forward to seeing our children continue to use their voices to make a difference.

Matt

The next sessions are next week, at the Ann Bernadt Centre, 29 Chandler Way, London SE15 6DT. It’s available to anyone, and you don’t need to have a referral or take any proof of income with you.

No appointment or referral required. Families can attend any session. On arrival, you'll be asked to sign an order sheet — this just helps us manage stock levels and make sure support goes where it's most needed.

NEWS – Class Names @SSq

We are proud to name our classes after inspirational people from in and around our community. Take a look at this year’s choices. We will be shining a light on each one throughout the year so stay tuned – make sure you ask your child if they have learnt anything already about their class name.

Our lost property box in the office has had so many items of uniform in it, especially school jumpers. The majority of these don't have names in them. Others have names but they are difficult to read.

Please can you make sure your child's name is in their jumper & check regularly that it is still legible.

Also, if you realise that your child has brought home a jumper with somebody else's name in it, hand it in to a member of staff in the school office.

Saturday 26th September, Saturday 24th October, Saturday 28th November and Saturday 12th December.

ALL FREE and right here at SSq. Find out more about the Old Kent Road Family Zone here.
