Dear Families,
It has certainly been a busy week at SSQ!
As many of you know, we welcomed Ofsted to the school on Tuesday and Wednesday. While we are unable to share the outcome at this stage, it was a lovely opportunity to showcase all of the things that make Surrey Square such a special place to learn and belong. The inspectors spent time speaking with children, staff, governors and families, visiting lessons and learning more about our curriculum and wider provision.
A huge thank you to everyone who completed the parent survey. We received some wonderful comments, many of which we will be sharing with the staff team. Feedback from our families means a great deal to us, and it was lovely to read so many reflections about the positive impact of the school on children and families.
This week has been Refugee Awareness Week. On Monday, we will be holding an assembly to help children understand the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers, and to reflect on how we can show compassion, understanding and welcome to others. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the toiletries collection, which will be donated to support asylum seekers in Southwark. This is a wonderful example of our values of community and compassion in action.

Two weeks ago, our Prime Minister and Cabinet officially launched ICESQ – the Surrey Square ice cream stand with the slogan: "Stay Cool, Support School!" Thank you to everyone who has supported this initiative so far. The Cabinet have been hard at work developing their business skills, calculating profits, carrying out stock takes and analysing which products are proving most popular. So far, they have made an incredible £300 profit!
The next stage is for the Cabinet to work with the wider Pupil Parliament to decide how this money should be spent. Ideas already suggested include improved bike and scooter storage, additional playground equipment and even some new astro turf. We are looking forward to seeing democracy in action as the children debate, discuss and decide how to invest the money for the benefit of the school community.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Matt
