Dear Families,
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our final Visit Your Child in Class Morning on Wednesday. It was wonderful to welcome so many families into school to see learning in action and celebrate the progress children have made this year.
We began the morning by reflecting on our school values and why they are such an important part of life at SSQ. We shared how values underpin everything we do and help children make positive choices in all aspects of school life. We also discussed the importance of all of us – staff, parents and carers – being role models for these values. Families then had the opportunity to revisit our current Parent/Carer Code of Conduct, considering what they liked, what should stay, what might be missing and whether there might be a better name that reflects our values-led approach. Thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts and feedback.
On Monday, I had the pleasure of taking our Pupil Parliament to visit the Houses of Parliament. The children enjoyed a tour of this historic building, including the House of Commons and the House of Lords, before taking part in an interactive workshop about how laws are created. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see democracy in action and make links to the work they have been doing through Pupil Parliament this year. They represented SSQ brilliantly and were a real credit to the school.

In assembly this week, we continued our focus on Responsibility. Building on the work we have been doing with Rafa Responsibility, the children explored how they can take responsibility when things go wrong or when conflicts arise. We revisited our simple framework called WIBIT:
- When…
- I felt…
- Because…
- I would like…
- Thank you for listening
Using a playground scenario, children practised how this structure can help them explain their feelings, listen to others and resolve disagreements respectfully. It was a great reminder that responsibility is not just about our actions, but also about how we communicate and work through problems together.
You might like to try using WIBIT at home too. Whether it is a disagreement between siblings, a frustration about a family decision or a misunderstanding between adults and children, WIBIT encourages us to solve problems with our words, listen to one another and take responsibility for our actions in a respectful way.
Next Thursday- 18th June – we will be having our class photos. Please ensure your children are wearing the correct uniform.
Wishing you all a wonderful end to the week,
Matt
NEXT OPEN MORNING FOR PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES

We have spaces available in our Reception classes for September 2026. If you know of any families new to the area who may be looking for a school place, please do spread the word – we would love to welcome them to our SSQ community. More information can be found here.

Southwark Council are offering portable WiFi units for residents living in Temporary Accommodation, where WiFi isn’t already installed. There are strict guidelines about who will be eligible for this – you must be on a low income and live in Temporary Accommodation provided by Southwark Council (not in accommodation that you rent privately from a landlord) and the council will carry out checks for each family. This accommodation could be in Southwark, or might be out-of-borough. I now have a referral form I can use, so please let me know if you would like me to refer you, by emailing me on [email protected].
Please keep an eye on the community noticeboard below and this information page outlining information from me about various other issues that I can help with.
