Dear Families,
We hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend and made the most of the sunshine!
A big thank you to everyone who attended TLC Day this week. These conversations are such an important part of the partnership between home and school – giving us the chance to work together to support each child’s progress, both academically and personally. We really value this time to connect and share next steps.
Next week, our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs. They have been working incredibly hard and we’re already seeing so many of our values on show – perseverance and responsibility in particular. SATs are an opportunity for the children to show some of the learning they’ve developed over their time at SSQ, but as always, we remind them that these tests are just one small part of their journey. What matters most is the whole child – their growth, character, creativity and the many experiences they’ve had along the way. We’re already looking forward to celebrating this more fully through their e-portfolios later in the term.
We wish Year 6 the very best for the week ahead – we know they will approach it with the same positivity and determination they show every day.
Make sure you check out all the information and news below.
Matt

We will be holding a well-being coffee morning for parents and carers on Tuesday 19th May, 9am in the pavilion. Look forward to seeing you then!
There is a workshop at 1st Place Family Hub on Wednesday 20th May 11am – 12.30pm on how to talk to your children about managing money and building good financial skills. See the flyer for more information:

Southwark Council are considering offering portable WiFi units for residents living in Temporary Accommodation, where WiFi isn’t already installed. There will be strict guidelines about who will be eligible for this – you must be on a low income and live in Temporary Accommodation provided by Southwark Council (not in accommodation that you rent privately from a landlord) and the council will carry out checks for each family. This accommodation could be in Southwark, or might be out-of-borough. Please let me know if you would be interested in finding out more.
Please keep an eye on this information page outlining information from me about various other issues that I can help with.

NEWS – DEADLINE EXTENDED – Help Us Share the SSq Story!
We’re currently working with some marketing specialists to think about how we share the story of Surrey Square more widely and ensure families who would benefit from our school know about us.
They’ve created a short follow-up survey, and we’d really appreciate your input:
- If you have a child currently in Reception – Year 6 please complete this survey.
- If you have a child currently in Nursery please complete this survey.
We will also run a second raffle prize for those who complete this one as a thank you. The Survey will close on Friday 15th May.

NEWS – Online Safety Workshop Follow Up
A big thank you from Carol, Fi and Molly to those of you that joined the Online safety parent/carer workshop: Keeping children safe on devices last week.
Here are the slides from the session for everyone to see (even if you didn't make it to the session)
The last slide has links to resources that parents/carers might find useful on the topic including a blank copy of the Family Agreement form Childsnet. This is a practical tool to start discussions around how to behave online and to help set clear expectations around online use for your family. If you would prefer a paper copy of this, please ask in the office.
NEWS – Gymnast Gets SSq Going!
Last Friday, Saffron Severn – a Commonwealth rhythmic gymnast – came into SSq to lead a sponsored fitness circuit with the whole school, followed by a motivational assembly and Q&A session. The event inspired the children to be more physically active but also raised money for sports equipment here at SSq.

Well done to everyone who has already bought in their sponsorship money in – please do so ASAP. We will inform you of the total raised next week. Thanks to Melanie for organising the event.
