This week we celebrated winning ‘Primary School of the Year – Making a Difference’ in the 2024 National Pearson Teaching Awards.

This prestigious award is for our entire team who work tirelessly and with immense pride to ensure that Surrey Square is ‘more than a school’ in so many ways. Values and wellbeing are at the core, and there is a powerful ethos rippling through the school – one of helping pupils to balance academic learning with the ability to develop positive relationships, communicate effectively, know who they are and have ambition.

Our team is also dedicated to supporting families and the local community, and has had a significant and very positive impact on the lives of many local people through its place-based initiative, the Old Kent Road Family Zone.

Our holistic approach ensures that pupils can achieve their full potential – evidenced by the number of pupils being ‘on track’ jumping from around 26% when they start in the nursery to around 85% by the end of their time at the school.

To celebrate, classrooms were covered in gold curtains with food, drink and games shared by classes across the school: a fantastic way to celebrate a fantastic achievement.
