At Surrey Square, we aim to give our amazing pupils the very best. We are proud to be “more than a school” in so many ways; from how we support our families and community, how we focus on the important work beyond the National Curriculum and how we balance the academic learning with developing well-being, relationships and values. This is our core work. For us, high attainment in core skills is a pre-requisite for success in secondary school, and beyond. However, just as important are the other skills – the ability to ‘self-manage’, to communicate clearly with others, to know who you are and to have ambition.
We actively teach our pupils these skills, seeing the core values – Responsibility, Respect, Enjoyment, Community, Perseverance and Compassion – as the framework. Along with well-being, these values are the backbone of the school, shaping our curriculum and pedagogy, and guiding our behaviours. We build on this core with the aim to equip our children to thrive and to build a better world for themselves and others. Social justice forms a critical part of our curriculum at SSq as we want to empower our children to find their voice and know how to use it to make positive change where it is needed.
